A Faster Way to Build Broadcast Graphics: Getting Started with Maxon Autograph

Build the graphic. Plan for the next version.

A title changes. A sponsor gets replaced. The editor needs a vertical version before the landscape master is approved. The creative idea still works—but now the project has to absorb a new set of requirements.

That is the production question behind FMC’s two free September webinars on Maxon Autograph: how do you build broadcast graphics that stay useful when the brief changes?

Join Jeff Greenberg and Max Raharjo on September 16, or Nick Harauz and Autograph co-creator François Grassard on September 28. Both live Zoom sessions follow a broadcast-style project, and every registrant receives the recording and downloadable Autograph project file afterward.

Two free sessions. A workflow you can revisit.

Why flexible graphics are worth your attention

There is measurable pressure behind the push for more versions. In research published in June 2025, Adobe surveyed more than 1,600 marketers. 62% said content demand had increased fivefold or more over the previous two years. Social content was the fastest-growing demand category for 66% of respondents, followed by short-form video at 54%.1

Those are self-reported marketing findings, not a survey of broadcast graphics departments or an Autograph performance benchmark. They do, however, give useful context for editors and motion designers serving brands: the same idea may need to work in several formats, for several audiences, across a changing campaign.

Consider a hypothetical package with three aspect ratios, four sponsor treatments and two languages. That is 24 deliverables before another revision arrives. A responsive project still needs review in every format, but it gives you a way to investigate how much repeated layout work can be removed.

What Autograph brings to that problem

Maxon relaunched Autograph in April 2026 with free access to its core features for individual users. It combines 2D animation, compositing and 3D capabilities, making it an accessible starting point for testing a different approach to motion graphics.2

Three documented capabilities are especially relevant to a project that needs to change:

  • Responsive compositions: position elements relative to frame dimensions so one project can render different aspect ratios without duplicating layouts.
  • External data linking: drive text, images and other parameters from sources such as spreadsheets, creating opportunities to update content and manage localized versions.
  • A native Cloner: generate repeated animated elements with controls over time and space.

Maxon documents these features in its April 2026 release notes.3. These are product capabilities to evaluate; the webinar descriptions do not promise a demonstration of every feature.

The useful test is specific: when a lower third becomes vertical, do the name, role and logo remain readable and correctly positioned? What happens when the replacement name is twice as long? Maxon’s format-overriding documentation4 explains how adaptive compositions respond to different formats. The design still needs your judgment.

This session follows a live project through design, animation and variations, showing how the workflow responds as editorial or creative requirements change.

Jeff Greenberg: a broad post-production perspective

Jeff Greenberg

Jeff’s professional biography documents more than two decades as a post-production consultant and master instructor, with specialties spanning editorial, workflow, compositing, sound, color and compression. It also records a decade as Future Media Concepts’ principal instructor. That background makes the connection to an editor’s wider workflow particularly relevant.5

Max Raharjo: technical training grounded in visual craft

Max Raharjo

The International Colorist Academy identifies Maximus “Max” Raharjo as a Maxon colorist and trainer and a certified DaVinci Resolve instructor. His background includes professional photography and a focus on making color-correction concepts easier to understand.6

His training work also has a public distinction: Maxon reported that Max and Dr. Sassi received a Gold Remi at the Houston International Film Festival for Exploring Your Artistic Intent, an episode of the Max on Color series that Max hosts.7

Bring this question: “How should I structure a graphic now so the next sponsor, title or format change is easier to manage?”

Nick Harauz + François Grassard · Free, live on Zoom

Designed for the PPW South Asia community, this session moves from project setup through delivery, pairing a working educator’s perspective with insight from one of the people behind the application.

Nick Harauz: experience teaching Autograph in context

Nick Harauz

Nick’s work spans video production, editing and education, with teaching and speaking appearances at Adobe MAX, NAB, InfoComm and LinkedIn Learning.8

There is also a direct Autograph connection: his MPTS speaker page lists a May 14, 2026 PPW Europe session titled Getting Started with Autograph: Fast, Responsive Motion Graphics. That gives attendees a concrete example of his experience teaching this application.9

François Grassard: insight into why the application works this way

François Grassard

In a 2024 interview with France’s CST, François explained that he and Alexandre Gauthier-Foichat created Left Angle and Autograph to address needs they saw in motion-design and VFX workflows. His role is best described as Autograph co-creator, reflecting that shared development history.10

For attendees, that creates an opportunity to ask about the reasoning behind the tools as well as the steps in a demonstration. Bring a real production constraint: a layout that must adapt, changing text, or a handoff that needs to work reliably.

Turn the project file into your own workflow test

The recording lets you revisit the instruction. The downloadable project file lets you investigate the decisions: how the composition is organized, what is linked and what happens when you change it.

After the session, try this small evaluation with a familiar graphic:

  1. Change the format. Compare landscape, vertical and square versions. Inspect text wrapping, logo position, safe areas and visual hierarchy.
  2. Stress-test the content. Replace a short name with a long one. Change the sponsor mark. Try another language if that is part of your work.
  3. Check the handoff. Export a short sample and inspect it in your editing application. Verify dimensions, frame rate, color and transparency where needed.
  4. Measure the whole task. Record setup, revision, export and quality-control time. Compare the same deliverables with your current method.

What would a useful time saving look like?

Use the 24-deliverable example. If your own test showed a five-minute reduction in manual work per deliverable, the gross saving would be 120 minutes. If preparing the reusable project added 45 minutes, the net saving on that package would be 75 minutes.

Illustrative calculation, not measured Autograph performance. Net time saved = deliverables × minutes saved per deliverable − additional setup time. Include any extra review or correction time in your comparison; use your results to decide whether the workflow earns a place in your pipeline.

Before you join

Download Autograph and check your system against Maxon’s published requirements11 if you plan to try the project afterward. The April 2026 release lists 16 GB of memory for both Windows and macOS, alongside platform-specific processor and graphics requirements.

Also distinguish the free application from optional effects: Maxon states that Universe and Red Giant OFX tools require a license. When exploring a project, check which effects it uses and whether you have the necessary access.12

Use September to identify the questions you want to explore further. Post|Production World’s published calendar lists New York on October 20–21, 2026, at NAB Show New York, followed by Mumbai / South Asia on October 22–23, 2026, at Broadcast India. Explore the PPW locations and programs.

Start with a free webinar. Open the project afterward. Then bring what you learned—and what you still need to solve—to your next training session.
